The New Mike O'Hara Trophy

The new Mike O'Hara Trophy

The family of the late Atherton and Lancashire stalwart Mike O'Hara attended the Blackpool Chess Conference (held over the weekend of 7-9th March 2008) to present a new trophy in his memory. It was awarded to Thomas Pym of Newport for the best performance by a junior in the Open.

New Chess Club for Juniors!

A new chess club has been formed within Lancashire with the primary objective of enabling junior players (under 18) to enjoy playing and learning about the game. The club meets every Wednesday evening at Old Blackburnians, Lammack Road, Blackburn, Lancashire, BB1 8LA (from 18:00). The first meeting on 21st November 2007 attracted junior players from all over Lancashire and it is hoped that numbers will grow as news of the club spreads. The club is organised by Dave Gaston, Lancashire's Chief Junior Coach, who will be on hand to provide coaching to all junior members; other coaches will be present to assist Dave.

The club, which has been named Knights United, is not intended to be exclusively for juniors. It will also be open to adult members providing that they are prepared to pitch in to encourage and help the youngsters.

For more details contact Dave on 01254 673430 or leave him a message via our feedback form.

Child Protection Policy Statement
