Lancashire Juniors Selected for England

At the recent England Under 11 team trial two Lancashire players, Jordan Lewis and Judd Bennett, came first and joint third respectively. They are now officially selected to play for England.

Jordan won the trial with 5½ out of 6, while Judd finished joint third with 4/6. Both players were unbeaten during the trial and Judd got an excellent draw with the British Champion.

Congratulations go to both players on a marvellous achievement and I look forward to reporting on their England exploits in the future.

Lancashire U9's Win Silver Medals

At the EPSCA Under 9 North Zone Inter-Association Championship held on the 13th March at Newcastle-under-Lyme, a very spirited Lancashire team finished a deserved second behind a very strong Nottinghamshire team, and ahead of Cheshire and North Wales who came third.

An excellent performance by a promising group of Lancashire youngsters!

Lancashire U12's - National Champions!

On Saturday 7th November 2009 Lancashire's U12 team went to Abraham Darby Academy near Telford to compete in the national team championship organised by the NYCA. After four rounds of skillful and battling chess the team emerged as the NATIONAL TEAM CHAMPIONS!

The U16 team also had a great day, finishing a superb third, only half a point behind second place Hampshire.

Well done to everyone involved! A full report can be found on our Junior Team News page.

Child Protection Policy

The Lancashire Chess Association's AGM held on 2nd September 2009 adopted a new Child Protection Policy. Actions to implement it have now commenced.

Junior Players Course

Lancashire Chess Association's Chief Junior Coach, Dave Gaston, has produced a Junior Players Course.

The aim of this course is to take new players to chess, teach them the basics of the game, and then show them techniques and strategies to bring them up to a standard where they can hold their own in a competitive game, whether it be league or congress.

The course manual is ideal for anybody running a junior chess club. To obtain a free copy, please get in touch through our feedback form.
